Pre and postoperative Diagnosis: 2 x 3 cm Subcutaneous nodule right groin. Specimen measures 4 x 3 x 1 cm with a resultant 5 cm suture line.

An elliptical incision was made around the palpable mass and carried down through subcutaneous tissues. Mass was then sharply dissected free. Wound closed in layers with simepl interrupted sutures of 3-0 monocryl in the subcutaneous space and then skin closed with a running subcuticular suture of 4-0 vicryl and steri-strips.

Path report: Rt groin Epidermal inclusion cyst

Would I code this using Integ. or Muscle?

I would love to hear other CPC's input on this too. If you are excising from the sub-cu its musc, not integ. But in this instance there isn't a CPT that lists groin specifically.

There is:
27047-274043 for Excision soft tissue pelvis, and hip area.
or
22902-22903 Excision soft tissue abdominal wall
or
27327-27337 Excision of soft tissue thigh or knee area

Where is the groin classified. In ICD-9 it looks like they classify the groin under abdominal trunk which includes abdominal wall and groin. For an example of this classification look at 682.2 Often my providers list a groin excision as a thigh excision....
