If a patient calls our office for a prescription refill and we do not see the patient, but the physician has to review the chart before approving the refill. Can we charge the patient/insurance if we don't see the patient face to face?

if the patient initiates the call and talks to the provider, and the provider is on the phone for 5 minutes or more(time not on the phone will not count), and the call does not related to an encounter from the previous 7 days the you can bill a 99441 for 5 to 10 minutes, it must be document and time must be included, if the payer denies then depending on payer policy you bill the patient.
