Okay...due to a discussion some disagreement...coding Pharyngitis and Tonsilitis together. Coding symptoms w/diagnosis????? Need to settle this argument. Thanks!

I was always trained/taught that you only code signs & symptoms when you don't have a definate dx. I believe this is the ICD-9 coding guidelines for outpatient services.

I agree with Roxanne, we use symptoms only when we do not get a definite diagnosis after the exam or procedure
