Our office utilizes a collection agency. We lose 50% once it hits the collections phase. Are there any offices that charge a flat fee to the patient to try and recoup some of this amount? We have been told to charge a reasonable amount, however, what is reasonable? Any help would be great!

Thanks,
Sarah

We charge a 30% collection fee to our patients, the same amount we are charged, if we send them to outside collections. Our patients sign something each time they are seen that states their agreement to pay "billing fees, attorney's fee, court costs, and other reasonable costs of collection" if they fail to pay.

My office does the same charges 30%.
