In ICD-9, when the diagnosis is colon cancer without further specificity and the patient had a left hemicolectomy would you code 153.2 or the unspecified 153.9? Does the site/area of the colon have to be specifically documented or can you code 153.2 because of the treatment procedure?

I've had two different answers to this question today and need a tiebreaker.
