Need help!! I have a procedure that was listed as a colon but the report says that the colonoscope was introduced through the sigmoid colostomy and advanced to the rectum for evaluation. This was the inteded extent. Then the colonoscope was introduced through the anus and advanced to the rectum. I wouldn't code colon thru colostomy (44388) since the cecum was not identified would I? and what would I list as my second code since it was just advanced to the rectum would it be listed as a proctoscopy? Thanks for any help you can provide.

You could use 44388 for the stoma and 45330(Sigmoidoscopy, flexible, diagnotic) for the visualization of the rectum via anal approach.

The proctoscopy(anoscopy) only visualizes the anal canal and the distal rectal muscosa.
