Dr. sent an order for a colonoscopy. The DX codes on the order are Screening Colonoscopy, Bloating and RLQ Abdominal pain. Would you put the screening code on the claim for the colonoscopy or just the Bloating and RLQ Abdominal pain?

If the patient is symptomatic , it's not a screening Colonoscopy ( Diagnostic ). However, there are some cases where the Ins
Co. will tell the patient that you have coded it wrong and that they are in for a screening. I would check the patient's age and
the chart to see before I would code Z12.11 as primary dx.
