When coding physician charges (not facility) for a colonoscopy with Bx, do you have to wait for path results on all Biopsies. If the physician states the bx looks suspicious, I would hold the claim for the path report. However, I have been told, by a very reliable source, that it is not necessary to wait for path on all colonoscopies or EGDs with a bx or polypectomy. We are having discussions that we MUST wait for all path results before billing. Thanks for any input you may have on the subject.

MY NURSES ALWAYS HOLD THE TICKETS TILL THE PATH COMES IN AND THEN LETS THE DR REVIEW AND MAKE ANY CHANGES AT THAT TIME BEFORE BILLING. THIS HAS BEEN THE PROCESS BETWEEN THE PHYSICIAN AND NURSES FOR OVER 20 YEARS. I WAS TAUGHT THAT YOU ALWAYS HOLD TILL PATH COMES, THEN CODE AND BILL.:o :o :o
