Patient with COPD, PE, Hypothyroid and osteopenia is at home and takes Rx. The pill goes down into the lungs by mistake. The patient becomes very hypoxic, goes on O2, has respiratory failure. Doc at the hosp does a comp exam. My question is, is a comp exam in this situation medically necessary? If not, it will change the code assignment. Thanks for your input!
