I have several physicians questioning how they are coding those long ADD visits for their patients. One is coding 99214 with prolonged service code 99354. (Time documented = 1 hour with patient & parents) They other is coding a 99215 only (Time documented = 45 minutes). Is one better then the other? Are they both correct? We are getting reimbursed for both ways.

Any help is appreciated.

The times are as follows:
99214 = 25 Minutes = Moderate to High Risk
99215 = 40 Minutes = Moderate to High Risk

Looks like the 99214 can be charges as level 5 if all creiteria is met.

Hope this helps,

Patricia
