A patient was refered to an endocrinologist for diabetes, and still has follow up appts for the diabetes. Then is re-referred for hyperthyroid, which is a brand new issue. Can you code a consult code again?

Its possible to have a consult more than once on a patient even for the same condition (except Medicare and payers who do not accept consult codes anymore). Does this meet the 3R's test or is this just a transfer of care for the condition?
