I work for a large healthcare system w/EMR. If, let's say, a family practioner sends his patient to a podiatrist all within our healthcare system, does the podiatrist have to send a letter/report to the family practice doc since they all have access to the patient's medical records.

If not, were could I get back up info to provide the physicians please.
 
You don't have to physically send a letter to the provider if they share an EMR but the same detail that would have gone into the letter must be in the medical record. As for documentation to back that up, I'm not sure what the official source would be.
