About the project
We're seeking an experienced inpatient coding auditor for a focused review of 50 inpatient acute care charts. The work includes MS-DRG validation and a full review of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS code assignment. You'll judge whether the original coding is correct, document your rationale, and support your findings with official guidance.

Scope and deliverables
  • Review 50 inpatient charts for DRG validation and diagnosis/procedure code accuracy.
  • Deliver a findings spreadsheet listing each chart's original and recommended codes and DRGs, with rationale and references.
  • Deliver a summary report covering the overall accuracy rate, DRG changes and financial impact, error trends, and education recommendations.
  • Turnaround: [deadline]. We estimate roughly 15–25 hours of work.
Requirements
  • Active CIC (AAPC) or CCS (AHIMA) credential. CDIP, CCDS, RHIA or RHIT is a plus.
  • 5+ years of inpatient acute care coding experience, including at least 2 years in auditing or quality review.
  • Strong ICD-10-CM/PCS coding and MS-DRG/APR-DRG validation skills.
  • Working knowledge of UHDDS definitions of principal and secondary diagnoses, the ICD-10-CM/PCS Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, and Coding Clinic.
  • Experience identifying CC/MCC capture, POA indicators, PSIs/HACs, and documentation gaps that warrant physician queries.
  • Familiarity with encoder and grouper tools (3M, Optum EncoderPro, or similar).
  • Secure remote work setup, HIPAA compliance, and willingness to sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA).
