which do I code if patient had tenderness in the low back from a MV rollover… it that a back contusion 922.31? Or just low back pain 724.2?

I would go with either 338.1x or 338.2x but the documentation must specify acute or chronic, plus the 724.2 but if the documentation does not specify acute/chronic then I go with just the 724.2, and an E code for the initial encounter. If this is days or weeks past then I would add a 905-908 code for late effect from trauma.
