Correct use of 01951-01953

I have been told 2 different ways to use 01951-01953. Does anyone have information on which way is correct?
I was told to determine the code using the total area of burns as shown in the chart from the ER because the anesthesia provider is treating the entire patient. And someone else said only consider the area treated in this particular surgery. IE: patient has burns on both legs, but the surgery I am coding is for only one leg, do I use the total area burned on both legs, or only the one treated at this visit?
