Hello All~

I have a physician who likes to review all systems and then bills according to incidental findings. Correct me if I am wrong - only the systems that relate to the CC should be reviewed and counted, correct? For instance - patient comes in for diabetes and hypertension. On the ROS for musculoskeletal he found that pt had back pain - so he feels that he should bill a 99214 because he treated 3 issues.

Thoughts??

Thanks!

I believe the back pain can be counted in the ROS but did the Dr. actually treat the back pain? Was it part of the exam and the MDM? It can help in getting the documentation up to 99214 level becasue you need 2-9 ROS but just becasue there are 2-9 ROS doesn't mean a Dr. can automatically charge a 99214.
