OB Courtesy Delivery
Recently, I was told my one Ob doc they can bill for delivery if they were in route.
Let me explain:
Patient was in active labor. Her Ob was paged and he was on his way to the hospital. However, the baby decided to come before the OB doc reached the hospital. So the oncall provider employed by the hospital delivered the baby. I am told the oncall provider should not or cannot bill for delivery because the OB doc got to the hospital with 30 mins of being paged. The OB doc can bill even though he did not do the actual delivery.

Is there anyone who can shed some light on this?

hmmmmm....no experience in OB but don't you think you need to be present for that delivery bill? I think the on call delivery doc is the one who gets paid and not the "courtesy" doc.

I think you already know he can't bill for it, and he cannot make you code it. If he wants to do it himself, well that is his problem. Don't risk your own license for his greed.

Good Luck!
