I work in a small pediatric practice that covers everyother weekend for another small pediatric practice in a separate location. Since we are not considered a group, and patients need referrals to be seen could I bill those patients as a new patient?
 
Check your insurance contracts. Most of them specifically address covering physicians. In the majority of cases you cannot bill them as new patients, if you are covering then they are billed as they would be by the primary provider. But again, check you contracts.
