What is the appropriate diagnosis for the COVID 19 retesting after the patients had been positive and they are now they are coming back for a second test. Mostly because employers are requiring a negative result to go back to work. I have not found any direction from the CDC or ICD 10. Thank You.

I would love more clarification on this, as well. The documentation has been all over the place to the point I'm unsure if I'm coding these properly. Some of our facilities aren't retesting within a certain time frame. Guidelines say use Z09 with Z8616, but that's WITH a negative test result. Any help is greatly appreciated :)

Our office uses Z86.16 on the E/M if they were previously tested positive (at our office) and we put Z20.822 on 87426 because they are being tested because they are "suspected" to still be positive and that is the reason for the test. But that is only if it is negative. If it is still positive use U07.1
