I received my CPC credentials in April of 2021, received my Medical Coding and Billing degree in May of 2021. I also went on to complete Practicode as an internship option to remove my Apprenticeship status from my credential and completed this in July of 2021. I lack the medical background experience - all of my work experience is service/hospitality industry. This is what seems to be holding me back from gaining employment. I have the drive and confidence - just in need of a opportunity! Please let me know of anything.

Try to see if you can volunteer with any hospital or clinic in your area or ask to shadow a coder so you can get some experience that way. You can put that volunteer work on your resume which will make you more attractive to those looking for candidates as long as you can customize your resumes to each job posting you see.

I completely understand where you are coming form, this is a major setback about coding. Most places are required experiences however, they miss the most important thing unless someone is willing to give you a chance to start you will never get the experience. Most medical records supervisors forgot they were once upon a time new to the coding world. This attitude toward new coders need to change I wish you the best in your job hunting. I'll keep an eye out for you.

Thank you for this suggestion! I just put in some applications for volunteer work 🤞🏼

Exactly! It’s hard not to get discouraged but I’ve come this far! Just need to try other outlets and hope that it helps!
