If I fail the CPC exam the first time I take it, do I have to pay to take it a second time? I had been told you get two tries

2 tries. You should be able to reschedule the second attempt through the AAPC website. Should be an open exam voucher in your My Purchases/items section of my AAPC. You might also be able to go through the https://www.aapc.com/certification/locate-examination.aspx link and I believe it will show that you already paid but I'm not sure.
