I am considering obtaining another credential from AAPC, but I'm conflicted on the one I should choose. I'm torn between the CPC-P or the CPMA. In my role as coding educator, I do deal a great deal with insurance and payers especially researching payer guidelines. I am involved in the audit process on a limited basis. I do some auditing, but we have full time coding auditors. I get involved when they have a question about the chart and I am asked to render my opinion, or there is a dispute with one of the providers on the audit findings, I am often asked to reaudit the chart for resolution.

Can anyone offer any guidance, please?

It sounds to me like your more "prominant" role would be for the payer side between the two. You could always work towards the other, but I would start with the payer and then the CPMA. Sounds like both would be important in your position. Good luck with your choice! I hate these types of decisions.....
