Quick clarification please. Doc opens 6 SEPARATE stapled wounds in OR for post op infection. All drain purulent fluid. This is a medicare patient. All wounds left open.

Just want clarification that I would not be using units for this, but listing each one as above.

It is my understanding that you would use modifier 78 and the DX codes would indicate complications of surgery. Also, in order to use -XS, those 6 wounds would have to be on 6 separate organs or structures.
