I was hoping for clarification before actually doing the procedure. She’s had a regular Dilation and Irrigation in the past with one of our doctors, but it didn’t last. This time I’d like to do the D&I again, but add in a flow control punctual plug at the same time.

The CPT definition was for D&I with a tube or stent, but I wasn’t sure if the flow control plug qualified for

that definition. Technically it is a plug with a tube in it, so I think it meets the definition. And I wouldn’t want to do the procedures on different days if I didn’t have to.

Hello,
The plug code would be 68761 per plug this code includes the D&I

If inserting a drug eluting implant for IO pressure in the lacrimal canaliculus would be the 68841 this is new code for 01/01/22. Also use this code for the removal.

The 68815 must be tube or stent and if a transluminal balloon dilation is performed with the insertion of tube or stent then code 68816.
Have a good day!
