I am new to pathology coding and I need some help please. I have billed CPT codes 83891, 83894, 83900, 83901(x3) and 83912 for a FLT3 Mutation Analysis. I have also billed CPT codes 83891, 83902(x3), 83900, 83901 and 83912 for a Quantitative RT-PCR for BCR/ABL1. When I billed 83900 on the claim for both tests, I billed it on one line x2 units. The insurance company is only paying 1 - 83900. They said no matter how many tests are done that only 1 CPT code 83900 can be billed. Is anyone familiar with these tests? Does CPT 83900(x2) appear correct for both tests? Thanks for any suggestions.

The big question is are you par with the insurance company? If you are par and the insurance company has a maximum frequency per day value; then you will have to eat the charge. UnitedHealthcare max units are here https://www.unitedhealthcareonline....cies/MFD_081010_MFD_CPT_Policy_List_10Q4F.htm

If your not par then it sounds like patient responsibility.
