I am not familiar with behavioral health and have a question from a client about a NP billing this CPT. The family NP is working under the direction of a psychiatrist and they want to know if the NP can bill 90791 if they are evaluating and treating diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, etc. The NP is not a licensed mental health professional such as a LCSW or LMFT. Thank you!

What is the NP's certified designation? Not sure they should be billing 90791 unless they are a certified Psychiatric/Mental Health NP. Also, an NP should probably be coding a 90792 if they are prescribing.

The only info I have is that the client's Family NP sees psych patients under the direction of a psychiatrist. I was also under the impression that only a physician or psychiatrist could bill a 90792.
