Hi, I have a questions regarding the CPT Cat II codes. From my understanding these codes hold no relative value and are used as supplemental tracking codes. Are there any specific guidelines when theses should be or should not be used. Also, who can use these?

For Example:

I have a chart where a RN is triaging a patient that fell outside our clinic, the patient sustatined a few abrasions and lacerations to the knees and hands. The RN used the application of dressing wet to dry 4266F. I would think because hes a nurse it would be apart of the 99211 code and not seperately coded. Can someone provide some insight on these codes or where I could look. and If this code would be okay to use in this scenario?

Thanks!

You cannot charge for nurse triage in a physician office setting. To use the 99211 the physician must first see and evaluate the patient and order a plan of care that the nurse is following up on.
