Help I am confused about the wording in the CPT manual regarding the General Health Panel (80050). It includes a combination of lab tests but I'm having trouble understanding how the CPT manual has it worded.
It's listed as: The panel includes the following:

Comprehensive metabolic panel (80053)

Blood count, complete (CBC), automated and automated differential WBC count, (85025 or 85027 and 85004)


I'm confused because you would not need to do a 85004 if you are doing 85025 or 85027. These tests would not be performed together. Please help me understand this wording or perhaps the manual should say "OR" instead of "AND."

85004 is an Automated differential WBC count which is included in 85025, but not in 85027 so you would have to run it if you did 85027. A complete WBC count and a automated differential WBC count are two different results.
