The physician did an open carpal tunnel release. He deepened the incision through the subcutaneous fat. Then there was a lipoma present over the transverse carpal tunnel ligament in which he removed. Can you bill the removal of the lipoma in addition to the carpal tunnel release? If so what CPT code would be billed for the lipoma? 25075? It was 2 cm.

Removal or lipoma or other soft tissue tumors that get in the way of the carpel tunnel release would be included. If it was significant extra work or time was needed due to the lipoma you can consider modifier 22 and submit with notes
