I have a breast case with 11 specimens. 5 Sentinel nodes, 1 breast mass excision, and 5 excisions labeled as "New Margins". I know the Sentinel nodes and the mass excision (with microscopic exam of margins) are all coded as 88307, but there are some questions about the rest of the specimens. The report shows the margins of these specimens as inked black, green, red, etc... but does not mention anywhere that a microscopic exam was performed. I have plenty of documentation that states that the report should mention "microscopic exam" in order to code these specimens as 88307's but there is some dispute in the company that I work for. Can anyone give me some guidance and/or tell me where I can find more information about this? I would greatly appreciate any help!
