A rep recently told one of our Dr's that starting in 2014 we could code for an XSTOP using 22840 and 22842. I can find no documentation for this. All I see is in the CPT to continue to use 0171T. Has anyone heard of this?

An add-on code cannot be used as a primary procedure. I would use Unlisted and check to see if the carrier covers the procedure. NEVER trust a rep..!

It is correct that you cannot use an add on code as a primary procedure, however you also cannot use an unlisted code when a code exists for the procedure. You will need to use the 0171T code. There are several payment policies from various carriers regarding this procedure including Medicare. You may need to do a little research on the coverage.
