pt's first surgery was a lt 'hemi'-craniectomy for a sudbural hematoma. During the surgery anerysm clips were used to secure a bleeding complication. Blood clots were removed from the dura then packed with cotton paddies over the craniectomy site and closed. Cranial flap was kept off.
A couple of days later, the second surgery -a cranioplasy to remove the packing material and the bone flap was placed back on with Synthes plating system.
I originally used 61312 for the first surgery. Since it states craniectomy/craniotomy, I didn't feel like I needed a reduced service modifier. Now I am second guessing myself. Can you give me your opinions on how these two surgeries should be coded?
