I'm curious as to how other offices work. I work at a University Hospital in credentialing. We have run into referring physicians being added to our dictionary from outside referrals and orders. They are being added to our provider directory as "on the fly". When I worked in a clinic and we had a provider refer to us, if they weren't in the dictionary we would put a referring place holder of "Dr. Not in Dict." and then we had to submit a ticket to IT after checking the OIG, NPPES and office for correct information. We have changed systems.... The hospital is saying that the credentialing department should enter each provider into our software and keep up with the monthly OIG verifications. I am looking for how do others do this or does anyone have documentation from a reputable source on who has the responsibility of outside providers status with the OIG? Thanks in advance
