Is it possible to bill critical care in a nursing facility? I recently took a position as a coder for a internal med grp and this question was asked. I cannot find any reading on if it is allowed or not. Please help. Thanks so much! :)

Critical Care

The patient must be critically ill.
The care provided must be critical care.
At least 30 minutes of direct face-to-face critical care must be provided (EXCLUSIVE of any procedure - e.g. intubation, CPR)

Typically this kind of care is provided in an ICU or ER, but it can be provided anywhere. Be sure to have excellent documentation, as you may get a denial for POS.

Hope that helps.
