Newborn delivered c section, 36 3/7 wks, 2755 gms, blue w/respiratory distress, Positive pressure ventilation,w/poor to fair aeration. Working dx tachypena, sepsis, I understand the 99295, but how do I code for 2hrs and 75 mins of critical care? I do not see any other codes for additional time. Can I use thet 99292? Pt was a medflight situation same day. Thank you very much for any help.

It is my understanding that the only code you need for Neonatal Critical care is the 99295. This code is for the entire day and is not based on time. It would not be appropriate to use the 99292 because that is an add on code to the 99291 and is only used on patients over 24 months of age.

Hope this helps!

Inpatient Neonatal and Pediatric Critical Care Services guidelines from CPT...

"The initial day neonatal critical care code (99295) can be used in addition to codes 99360, 99436 or 99440 as appropriate, when the physician is present for the delivery (99360 or 99436) and newborn resuscitation (99440) is required."
