I am a coder for a General Surgery group that includes credentialed critical care providers and general surgeons. I am perplexed regarding this relationship, please help:confused:

The surgeons perform a major procedure, patient experience complications and is admitted into ICU, the critical care providers partner with the surgeons, treat, and oversee care during the post-op period; each are performing daily rounds and management. The group is in the same service...is it possible to bill for both critical care and post-op management during the global period?

All input is welcomed :)

Global period

If the providers are in the same practice and of the same specialty, then they are all covered by the global post-surgical package. If the critical care providers are of a different specialty ... they may be able to use the E/M codes (critical care or subsequent hospital visit), as per documentation of the services provided.

Hope that helps.
