Day 1: Consultation by pulmonary is performed for a patient with Acute Respiratory Failure stabilized on a ventilator in the ED
Day 2-3: Pulmonary manages the ventilator, IV steroids and daily CXR. Goal is to wean from vent.
Day 4: Patient is extubated.

Can the pulmonologist bill critical care 99291 for days 2-3 if the time limit is met? He spends time examining patient, reviewing CXR and ABGs and making vent changes. Is this satisfactory for 99291 billing?

Please help!

If they are already stabilized on the vent, i don't believe you can bill critical care but i'm not completely sure.
