In the event that a patient with Crohn's or UC is seen with multiple complications, how would this be coded in ICD-10? The example given to me by one of my providers was Crohn's of the large intestine with fistula, abscess and obstruction. Would we use K50.112, K50.113 & K50.114? Would it be appropriate to code K50.118 (with other complications) and elaborate on the other complications in the documentation? Expert advice is appreciated!!

Thanks

I recently asked a similar question on Supercoder. I was told that for Crohn's of small intestine w/rectal bleeding, intestinal obstruction, & fistula you would report K50.011, K50.012, & K50.13, not K50.018 (other complications).

Thanks

Abb thanks so much for your input! This one was a little confusing for the provider and myself! Always good to have our peers and friends help us out!

thanks again
