Here is the bulk of it, we have a CT scanner in our practice. Only our physicians order to that department (meaning no outside physicians). We have a contract with the radiologist who reads the images. We bill both the professional component and technical component under the physician who ordered that test. If that physician is not in house that day, do we need to change the billing provider to someone under the roof that day?

Thanks in advance.

We have a CT in house and bill the technical and professional component for commercial insurances, but if it is Medicare or TennCare or other government insurance we only bill technical component and the radiologist bills the professional component. If we don't then the radiologist's office calls because their claim was denied. Our claims are billed under the supervising provider. Sometimes the supervising provider is different from the rendering and/or ordering, but you get reimbursed based on the supervising provider.
