What are the criteria for using the current injury (800) codes and old (700) codes for meniscus tears of the knee or any other joint derangement problems such as labral shoulder tears? Is there a specific time period when the problem is no longer considered "current"? I have researched this but have never found a definitive answer.
 
When it is documented as chronic or old is when we use the 700 codes. I have not heard of any time span for use of these.
