The code for cystic kidney disease by index is Q61.9 which is congenital one..can we use it for 80 years patient????

Other than more specific there aren't many guidelines changes from what was in I9. Congenital is not limited to any specific age. You can have a congenital condition and not show symptoms until later in life or never at all.

It can also be acquired. You shouldn't code from the index. Did you look in the I10 tabular? Q61 contains an Excludes1 that says acquired cyst of kidney (N28.1) or Potters Syndrome (Q60.6). You should query the physician to see if its congenital or acquired
