PROCEDURES:
1. Robotic-assisted total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingectomy.
2. Cystoscopy.

Is cystoscopy included in the hysterectomy? Or do I need to code it separately? The cystoscopy was performed and the bladder was noted to be normal and intact with vigorous efflux of urine through both ureters.

If the cystoscopy was done to 'check their work' after the hysterectomy, I do not bill it as it is inherent to the main procedure. This is a Medicare NCCI guideline, which most payers follow. If the cystoscopy was done for a diagnostic reason, such as to check for a tumor or to determine source of hematuria, then I would code/bill it. So for your example, I would not code the cystoscopy separately as they were just checking to make sure no damage was done during the hysterectomy.
