I know today is the big day and I thought we were ready. LOL But apparently we are having issues with dates of service. So, my question is if the dates of service are from 09/28/2015, will insurance companies accept the Icd 9 codes still or do we need to code them in Icd 10?

It the date of service is prior to Oct 1 you use the ICD-9 CM codes. The claim has an indicator field within field 21. This indicator must be set to the number 9 for claims with ICD-9 CM codes and the number 0 for claims containing ICD-10 CM codes.

I work for a smaller carrier and our policy for ICD 10-CM is by date of service so if service took place on 9/28 we require providers to use ICD-9.

Inpatient facility which uses -PCS is going based on discharge date.

I know for inpatient facility, our claims department is going to be very busy for a while overriding the invalid DX edits. Our systems cannot support date spans for dx codes so we cant have an I9 and I10 codes active on the same date.
