patient has pilodonal cyst excised........in the global period , dr dictates that he debrided the wound. combination of chemical and blunt debridement of skin and/or subcutaneous tissue. DSD applied. wound appropiate for course. no infection. This was done in the office, not OR. Is this billable?

Debridement

I would say no. Patient is in a global period and it is related to the previous procedure. If the patient was taken back to the OR, then you would be able to use modifier 78.

I thought same thing but I have a DR who wants to bill it done in office all the time............trying to find some black and white guidelines concening this
