I code for a general surgeon who performed a debridment of 1400 sq cm through out the patients abdomen as well as pelvic area down through the muscle but not to the bone. Would this be coded as the 11043 & 11046 x 69?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

if this is the correct measurements, yes you are correct...but that just seems odd and large, basically 14.5 inches by 14.5 inches...thats alot of abdomen.

Cpt 11005

For an accurate response to surgical coding questions, please post the op note.

From the limited information you provided ... did you look at 11005?

Hope that helps.

I have had the same problem, we have a patient that has a very large wound due to necrotizing fasciitis but is located on the back so the 11005 did not apply. We used the 11043 and 11046x_ but I am wondering if these will deny since we have started seeing several of our wound care claims denying when the 11046 was filed with 2 units. I noticed that 11046 has an MUE of 1 but this code states "each additional 20 sq cm" so do we even have the option to appeal since the MUE doesnt seem to line up with the code description?
