Patient seen by clinic for entire pregnancy has an unplanned delivery at home. After delivery she is admitted to the hospital but has no complications. I will be splitting her antepartum out, but I am trying to figure out what else can be billed besides her postpartum care. Can you bill the admit, subsequent visits and discharge and then the postpartum care? Or would it just be the admit and the postpartum care (59430).

Thank You!

59430 includes only outpatient PP care. So yes, bill the admission, visits and discharge and then 59430.

Piggy-back on this one.

patient delivered at home and was taken straight to the hospital for admission. They had a 2nd degree lac repair and was discharged next day. Patient has Medicaid.

Would this be correct?

day of admission
59300- Episiotomy or vaginal repair
o70.1- Second Degree Perineal Lac during delivery
o62.3- Precipitate Labor

99238/99239 for discharge

You would also bill the admission code with Z39.0. Without seeing the note, I can't agree with O62.3. Just because they delivered at home doesn't mean the labor was fast.
