Newborns are referred to our office for evaluation of ankyloglossia (tongue-tie) and the office surgery for correction is scheduled at a later date. Insurance companies are considering this as part of the surgery reimbursement even though the child was a new patient. I have tried to appeal stating a complete otolaryngology exam was done as part of the initial visit, but the appeal is denied.
