We are a primary care Pediatric office. Our providers will soon begin doing a very brief, 2 question depression screening with Yes or No answers for our adolescent patients. I have been researching this to find the most appropriate CPT code we should bill. Either 96127, 99420 or G0444. I believe code 96127 is most appropriate, but I need some other opinions. What would be the correct code for this screening?

96127 is appropriate for screening for depression

If the tool your physicians are using is a standardized instrument such as the PHQ-2, PHQ-9, or Beck Depression Inventory, then code 96127 is correct. Code 96110 is for developmental screening with a structured instrument (eg, MCHAT, Ages and Stages). Breakout of the brief assessment for emotional/behavioral health occurred with addition of code 96127 and this code is also appropriate for ADHD screening instruments. Hope that helps. Cindy
