I'm wondering how you all code for types of dermatitis that are not listed in the index of the coding manual. For example, when the diagnosis is something like this:

Spongiotic dermatitis. The differential diagnosis includes lichen simplex chronicus, contact/irritant dermatitis, and eczema.

I have been coding this L30.9 for dermatitis, unspecified, because the differential diagnosis includes several different possibilities.

But I'm wondering if I am using an unspecified code when I don't need to. Could "spongiotic dermatitis" be coded L30.8 for "other specified dermatitis?"
