Hi,
I work for a physiatry (physical medicine and rehab) group that is contemplating hiring a psychologist to evaluate pt's before they receive narcotic scripts and for spinal cord stimulator evals. I have no experience in behavioral health billing/coding. Can a psychologist bill insurances or would it have to be on a cash basis? Should they bill e/m or psychotherapy codes? Can they bill the 90862? Any and all help would be appreciated. Or if anyone knows of a good resource for this information?
Thanks so much!

A psychologist can NOT bill EM codes or 90862. They are stuck to the psych codes, HB codes and some testing codes. Yes, if they are set up with numbers, etc they can bill insurance.

There is ALOT of good info on WPS Medicare. Read the LCD for psych. Also look at NCD's. I believe psychologists have their own NCD
